In a suspected incident of hate crime against minorities, unidentified attackers killed an Ahmadi man in Faisalabad late Saturday night.
Naseem Ahmad Butt, 55, was shot dead by four men as he lay sleeping inside his house in Muzaffar Colony. According to his brother Khalid Pervez Butt, at about 1am on Saturday, the attackers entered by climbing over the walls.
“The boys were between 20 and 25 years old. Three of them kept a watch on the door as one kicked my brother. When he was awake, the killer said ‘you are Ahmadi and liable to be killed’,” Khalid told The Express Tribune.
The attacker then shot Naseem in the chest while another bullet ruptured his kidney, Khalid said. “My brother was lying in a pool of blood when we saw him. The sound of him crying woke us up.”
A car and a bicycle were used in the attack, Khalid said, and the assailants fled from the main gate of the house.
The family rushed an unconscious Naseem to the Divisional Headquarter Hospital, where he succumbed to his bullet wounds at 8.30am on Sunday.
Naseem, who worked at a power loom factory, leaves behind his widow, four daughters and a son.
Constant threat
According to Khalid, Naseem and other members of their family were under constant threat by a group of extremists who had repeatedly threatened to kill them for their faith.

“My first cousin Naseer Butt was also killed in a similar fashion last year. Police has made no effort to trace his killers and the case has been swept under the carpet by being declared ‘blind murder’,” Khalid said.
However, in hope of assistance, Khalid has registered a case with the Samanabad Police for the murder of Naseem. A FIR under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code has been filed.
‘Hate crime’
An advocacy group based in Faisalabad has called Naseem’s murder hate crime and says it has contacted provincial and local police officials but in vain.
Over the past two years, as many as six Ahmadis have been killed in Faisalabad but no killer has been brought to book, said secretary of the secretary of the Faisalabad chapter of the Umoor-e-Aama Jama’at Ahmadiyya Mahmood Ahmad Shah.
“We have time and again contacted the Faisalabad police chief and other senior police officials throughout Punjab that a group of fanatics are threatening Ahmadis in the area.
A list of these names is being publicly circulated,” he said.
In June, Ahmad wrote an email to the province’s home secretary and police chief and Faisalabad’s regional police officer, following the distribution of pamphlets in the city that not only called Ahmadis wajibul qatl (liable to be killed) but also exhorted people to kill them to achieve martyrdom.

The Punjab government’s record of protecting Ahmadis has been dismal.
In May last year, more than 88 people were killed in provincial capital Lahore when gunmen opened fire at two separate places of worship and, one year on, little progress has been made by investigators.

@R S JOHAR: You are absolutely right but I was saying what Ahmadis/Qadianis believe in. You or I or anyone else may disagree with their teachings but have no right to kill them on satanic mullah’s incitement. I agree more than 100 percent with you that if minorities unite and answer to the mullah's atrocities, not only they will wear 'burkas' and runaway but also Islamic teachings that have been completely remanufactured will be corrected to real Islam.
@Ali:
Irrelevant in the sense that it is irrelevant to the topic under discussion, i.e., hate crime
@AnisAqeel: My dear sir, you mis-understood my advice to minority community in Pakistan. I never stated to wage jihad but emphasized not to become a meek lamb against the wolves around you. If the state fails to provide security to the citizens of the minority community, they must protect themselves using any means available to them. Let me give the example of Sikhs, who were baptised into 'Khalsa Panth' from Hindu community by their tenth Guru, Guru Gobind Singh and numbering only a few thousands fought valiantly against lacs of army of Aurangzeb who was forcibly converting Hindus into Islam ultimately defeated him ending Moghal dynasty in the un-divided India. Let me tell you that majority of Hindus barring Rajputs, Marathas etc during that era had a defeatist attitude like minorities in Pakistan. So, choice is yours what path to choose however, the Almighty Allah always help the weak and down-trodden in path of their just struggle. Regards. R S Johar
Any fatwas by any clerics agaist suicide bombing of innocent worshippers in mosques????
Any fatwas against the enemies of Islam.......those who weaken and break up a united peace loving Muslim community to develop their individual power base and wealth?
Any fatwas or warning against those preaching hate?
@R S JOHAR: Probably you are not aware of the fact that Ahmadis/Qadianis do not believe in violent protests and do not believe in Jihad of Sword unless to protect your country from foreign aggression, they believe in 'Jihad of Pen and Reasoning'. Why! It might be that they are a very small and physically weak minority (quite realistic approach) or their founder's teachings to spread Islam with peaceful means.
An error has been made by me in the last line of my latest comment which should read '* If this doesnt work, they should arm themselves for self defence which is justified as a last resort since NO protection is given to the helpless minorities by the state.*
@OFA: @Malik: I read with concern comments made by both of you. Its known to the whole world now that Ahmediyas and other minorities are being discriminated in Pakistan and state is either helpless or delibrately turning a blind eye on their unending woes. OFA, you seem to have resigned to fate accomplii which is not the right attitude. I feel all minorities should come together a make a joint front and put up their just demands to the govt, take out peaceful demonstrations in various cities and towns. The front should be prepared to make some sacrifices since fanatics will use violence against it. If this doesnt work they should arm themselves for self defence which is justified as the last resort since protection to helpless minorities is being given by the state.
TO all those who took it only as a murder,as its every where in Pakistan
could you please show me any Fatwas or any pamphlets or any speeches against any of the daily based murders in Pakistan? I am sure that you could never. So how you people can attach this murder which was clearly for attaining the so called Paradise of molvies! So please try to learn to face the facts not the stories, other wise pigeon cant save itself by closing its eyes in front of cat. So be the realistic! thanks!
Ahmadies do not need any sympathy from the masses. Our court is with Allah, the knower of all and the master of the day of Judgment, To him we turn for guidance and help in all matter, and to him shall we return.
For those blind and filled with hate will also witness the truth one way or the other. Inshallah a day will come when all hate and evil will fall to the banner of the one true message of Islam.
May Almighty Allah raise the status of Naseem Butt in Paradise. Ameen. Sanity: this is an pathetic way of thinking that killing of any minority is blame on Muslims. How much evidence you need to believe the truth behind this barberic crime. Is it a co incidence that few months ago Pamphlets were distributed mentioning the names of Ahmadiis in faisalabad with there addresses and asking so called muslims, to kill them. (wajib ul Qatal). Is it a co incidence that 6 Ahmadiis has been killed so far in Faisalabad. Please stop this hypocricy and think rational. This is not the Islam of Prophet Muhammad(may peace be upon him). This is the Islam of fanatic Mullahs whom roots goes back to General Zia ul Haq. May Almighty Allah save Pakistan from these fanatics. Ameen. LOVE FOR ALL HATRED FOR NONE. alislam.org
Barbarianism touching limits in Punjab.
@Ali: "In America everyone is safe, there is no national terrorism taking place" In America there are fanatics as much as in Pakistan but 99.9999 percent respect the other people’s opinion and do not practice that either agree with me or prepare to be killed. Every religion or belief is respected and is more of a borrowed Islamic value they practice at large. Here in Pakistan, we have lost our on religious practice and values to fanaticism and ignorant clerics.
@woohoo: its irrelevant that 4,000 have died ? maybe to an indian like you Im talking about events in pakistan, not worldwide
stop getting upset over 1 death
@usman: yes they were.what kind of fake liberal world do u live in ?
@thui: why do u care about pakistan from usa unless you are a NRIOP ? Non resident indian obsessed with Pakistan ?
In America everyone is safe, there is no national terrorism taking place
Killing is not allowed in Islam. Nobody has a right to preach hate and justify murder of anyone because he is a non muslim or prays in a different way. God is the final judge not a mere self proclaimed muslim leader. The government must ensure that hate mongers who divide our society should be punished so that our nation can start healing. Those that issue 'Fatwas for death" should also be held. Who are they to give public calls for murder. Is our Government so weak that it cannot see what is the root cause of our social breakdown?
Dear Shams bhai you did great job by covering this report of An innocent Ahamdi killing- Actually some fanatics in Faisalabad are fully engaged in Killing Ahmadis------------ it is Govt duty to give ensure the safety of all his walk of people-------- where is Zardari, where is Cheif minister of Punjab, Where is Rahman malik, Where is Iftikhar Ahamd Ch
Fanatics taking over Pakistan. If we don't open our eyes then our already weak moral fabric will completely collapse.
@T Khan
Thanks for your advice as you wrote "open your eyes"
actually we all should think over it that is this all lawlessness is improving the name of Islam and Pakistan ??????????
I was once again shocked to hear this news of brutal killing.Ahmadies weren't feeling safe out side their home, but now they cant feel themselves safe with in the boundary wall of their own homes!rather they cant even dream of it! Is this the 21st century we are living in?Can a true Muslim even think of it?Is this A Muslim country which you want to be the role model for whole Muslim world? I think any literate person will feel ashame answering these questions in YES while living in pakistan. As all this is happening under nose of the government of Pakistan.
I feel very Sorry that all this is happening at the name of Peaceful Religion ISLAMwhich the founder of islam our beloved prophet(SA) could not even dreamt of !
it
s very sad situation in pakistan people are being killed due to there sects and what they fallow .I thinks so that we have the right as a human being what ever thoughts teachings we have.If you are harmless for the society then you are ok.I didn
t find any example that ahmadies spoiling the others. They Preach only LOVE and Humanity .It`s a great injustice for these people.@ Sad, please read the news again. The victim was unconsious when they took him to hospital.
This killing spree is very well sponsored and protected by Punjab Govt. and Faisalabad Police.
Respected T Khan
This is Allah's Almighty's especial blessings for me That "Allah Open My Eyes and i have strong faith on THE HOLY PROPHET". Thanks God- O Allah please open these of Terrorists. There is no God But Allah, And Muhammad SAW is his Prophet
So any one willing to support minorities like taseer did ? we all know the fate ... Pakistan is such a awesome country and we Pakistanis are so tolerant qoam ...
@maulabus: Open your eyes!!! what else has to happen for you to C that they have succeeded???? Get out of the world of cliches and wake up to reality.....look for Islam and let us know if you find it
proper terminilogy is quadianior mirzai..Ahmed is another name of muslims' holy prophet (pbuh). This confusion should not be created and Tribune and other such papers should be diligent in uttering something which is hateful towards muslims.
These terrorists are spreading hate against Islam---- but they will never succed
This country will be doomed at the hands of the extremist mullahs.
@junaid ali: what do u expect from CM Punjab. He himself is biased towards ahmadis. On 28th May last year when about ninety ahmadis were masacred in Lahore two mosques he never bothered even to visit hospitls or places of incident nor any of his minister came. inalilah
@Nadeem Ahmed Didnt you read the attack took place at 1 am, while he died at 8 in the morning. He might have told his dialogue with the killer.
This is truly an evil country, filled with evil people.
I dont know who killed the person and why but I suggest all the Muslims to understand Allah's protected message i.e. Quran, otherwise will be facing difficulty here and hereafter.
Day after tomorow,( 7th Sep) is 'celebrated' by religious groups by taking out 'jaloos' and delivering hate speeches against ahmadis. They will once again issue FATWA of killing the murtad. Some other ahmadis will be targeted soon. Their message of hate and enmity will be carried across country by our leading newspapers next day. We are inviting wrath of Allah. It is already there if you keep your eyes open and see what is happening in Pakistan.
Culture of all type of hatred has prevailed in our beloved country resulting into brutal killings. The people who are creating any type of hatred will become themselves a prey to to it, they have totally forgotten now.
it is "Suspected Hate Crime" "1 ahmedi killed is more important then many others killed".killing is wrong..no doubt...but media always exploit it to create more hate
What about all the Muslims who get killed by foreign criminals sent by our enemies? Isn't the life of a Muslim worth as much as the life of a minority person?
@ex
I hope you join the police then.
@Sanity
The reason is listed in the news article but the blind shall remain blind.
This is depressing. Good to know that all Muslims in India can practice their Religion. This is not possible in a Country made for Muslims. How ironical.
There is a very important contradictions in statement of brother..The family woke up when victim was already shot and was crying..but they heard the dialogues of killers before shots were fired.. It looks to me a domestic dispute..Majority or minority, all are same. Please don't waste your venom against majority.
@ ET: “The boys were between 20 and 25 years old. Three of them kept a watch on the door as one kicked my brother. When he was awake, the killer said ‘you are Ahmadi and liable to be killed’,” Khalid told The Express Tribune. And than they only heard him while he cried. “My brother was lying in a pool of blood when we saw him. The sound of him crying woke us up.”
@Khalid Butt: May the murderers be caught and justice be done with them.
Why ever time a minority is killed it is blamed on Muslim (or religion)? as similar threat in UK where found out to be fake.
Although I strongly oppose ahmadi beliefs but at same time I strongly condemn the killing of innocent people whether they are Ahmadi, Christian, Hindu, Muslim etc
Ahmedis are also Muslims. There I said it. Bite me!
*@ ex* MIND YOU pamphlets wasnt distributed against the police officers
Doctrinal differences cannot be settled by cold blooded cowardly murders. They can only be settled by logic, understanding and mutual respect. The murder of one innocent human is like the murder of the whole mankind, as decreed by the Holy Prophet (saw).
@Johar True it is no longer Jinahs pakistan At the same time I would say it is no longer Islam of HOLY PROPHET (S.A.W.S) (in Pakistan)
I don't know why these people call themselves Muslims and kill in the name of religion. These so called religious zealots believe in one God but do not believe in any of the teachings passed on to them (if passed on to them). I believe that no religious order should be allowed or Maulvi should be allowed to practice until and unless they can read, understand and speak in arabic. In fact all Quran's should be published with urdu translation or local dialects so people can read the translation and understand what it is asking people to obey. Please start educating our children so that they can stop listening to Jahil's and their version of the Islam.
@ex and Sanity, are you seriously trying to excuse the minority targeted killings?
Here in the US, Muslims are being targeted for hate crime and imprisonment; should we follow your logic and say that "No one is safe", anything could have happened for any reason?
Racial profiling and targeting of anyone based on their ethnicity or religious background is unacceptable!
CM sharif should focus on TARGET KILLINGS in punjab and ,that too, in the name of religion.
Its no longer 'Jinnah's Pakistan' as the present scenario indicates that it has become Zia's Pakistan.
Its wrong to blame Muslims whenever someone from minority is killed? Anyone could have killed him for any reason.
In other news, 4,000 Police Officers have died since 2005.No one is safe
