LHC directs access for Hassaan Niazi to sign nomination papers
The Lahore High Court (LHC) has issued directives to the Election Commission of Pakistan's (ECP) lawyer and deputy attorney general, instructing them to facilitate PTI leader Hassaan Niazi in signing the election nomination papers.
Justice Ali Baqir Najafi issued a four-page written decision in response to a request made by Hassaan Khan's mother, highlighting Niazi's current custody under the commanding officer linked to the Jinnah House attack case.
The petitioner emphasised Niazi's desire to partake in the upcoming election but lamented the denial of permission to sign the nomination papers.
The court's judgment pointed out the absence of a clear indication of the constituency from which Hassaan Niazi intended to contest.

It said that the public prosecutor conceded that Niazi holds no conviction, affirming his eligibility to participate in the election.
Furthermore, the prosecutor clarified the lack of communication between Niazi and the commanding officer overseeing his custody.
Addressing the matter, the court observed the deputy attorney general's failure to cite any provision within the Army Act that might prevent an under-trial individual from participating in electoral processes.

The court then ordered the facilitation of Hassaan Niazi's access to sign the necessary papers if he intends to participate in the election.
The court wrapped up the plea and concluded proceedings by instructing the ECP's lawyer and the deputy attorney general to apprise the commanding officer of the court's order without delay.
