Despite a significant decline in the prices of petroleum products by the caretaker government, the residents of Murree are yet to experience any relief in the transportation fares along any of Murree’s local routes, including the Rawalpindi-Murree route.
Since September, the caretaker government has reduced the price of petrol by Rs64 per litre while the price of diesel has been reduced by Rs53 per litre. Despite this, the Murree administration seems unable to provide relief to the residents of the area. Simultaneously, passengers are also being charged double fares on all local routes in and around Murree. However, the traffic police have not taken any action or issued notices regarding these escalated charges.

Moreover, the traffic police appear relentlessly focused on meeting their targets by penalising tourists, drawing widespread public ire. This dissatisfaction has spurred public circles to demand concrete action from the Murree administration and traffic police.
They have demanded a significant 30 per cent reduction in fares across all Murree routes. This plea resonates with the directives of Punjab Chief Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, aimed at easing the public’s burden.
