Police claimed to have apprehended a suspect accused of brutally murdering his father, Maulvi Khan Bahadur, the imam of a mosque in Gadhoka, Karampur.
The crime, police said was driven by the suspect's distress over remaining unmarried.
Sub-Inspector Javed Joya, leading a police team, reached the crime scene. The body of the imam was discovered in the mosque, prompting Rescue 1122 to assist in transporting it for a post-mortem examination.
The post-mortem results unveiled the imam's early morning demise, compelling Bahawalnagar police to deploy modern investigative tools, including Call Detail Records (CDRs) and geo-fencing.
A team of plainclothes officers, directed by District Police Officer Naseebullah, identified the victim's son as a prime suspect.
Further inquiry by the police investigators exposed that the son had visited the mosque on the fateful morning, returned home, and later confessed to the crime.

The motive behind this act was revealed to be a personal grudge related to marriage.
Police said the suspect was the first to raise alarm about the death of his father.
Punjab police inspector general Dr Usman Anwar and district police officer of Bahawalnagar, in their commendation over the solution of the case, stressed the importance of effective utilisation of available resources to address public concerns and eliminate crimes .
DPO Naseebullah highlighted the pivotal role of modern technology, including geo-fencing and tactical approaches, in swiftly tracking down the killer, who promptly admitted to the crime.
The arrested accused in the
murder case now remains in custody.
