Justice Masood takes oath as acting CJP

Justice Masood will serve as the acting chief justice during CJP Isa's absence

ISLAMABAD:

Justice Sardar Tariq Masood on Saturday took oath as the acting chief justice during a simple ceremony held at the Supreme Court, a statement released by the apex court said.

He will perform the duties of the country's top judge during the absence of Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa. The oath was administered by Justice Ijazul Ahsan. Other apex court and Lahore High Court (LHC) judges, the attorney general for Pakistan, and representatives of the Pakistan Bar Council and Supreme Court Bar Association were present during the oath-taking ceremony.

The proceedings of the oath-taking ceremony were conducted by SC Registrar Jazeela Aslam. Staff and officers of the apex court were also present.
Justice Masood began practicing law in 1985 and was admitted as an advocate of the high court in 1987. In 2008, he was elevated as an advocate of the apex court. He is the second-most senior judge of the SC and serves as a puisne judge.
