Committee formed for tax reforms

Aim is to broaden tax base, simplify rates, advocate fair treatment of active filers

Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Acting President, Muhammad Suleman Chawla, announced on Tuesday that FPCCI has agreed in principle to collaborate with the Pakistan Tax Bar Association (PTBA). The collaboration aims to establish a joint committee dedicated to promoting a robust tax culture, broadening the tax base, simplifying rates, and raising awareness.

During a visit to the FPCCI headquarters in Karachi, PTBA President Anwar Kashif Mumtaz and his team engaged in discussions regarding mutual interests in taxation reforms. Chawla emphasised the FPCCI’s commitment to prioritizing the documentation of the economy while advocating respect and facilitation for active tax filers.

FPCCI Vice President M A Jabbar underscored the need for simplifying and rationalising the taxation system, aligning it with global best practices. He proposed the separation of tax collection machinery and adjudication for enhanced integrity, fairness, and administrative efficiency.
