KARACHI:

In the general elections of 2018, Karachi was deprived of its true representatives and handed over to people who had no connection to the city, said Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) Convener Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui told a crowded press conference at the party's central election office, Pakistan House, accompanied by members of the MQM-P Coordination Committee.

Siddiqui further stated that with the presence of Sindh Chief Election Commissioner Aijaz Anwer Chohan and Election Commission of Pakistan Member Nasir Durrani, the possibility of transparent and impartial elections in Sindh were impossible.

The performance of these individuals in the local government elections was clear evidence of bias in favour of particular political party, he said adding MQM-P will not accept the conduct of general elections in Sindh in the presence of individuals involved in corruption.

He emphasized that the people of Karachi will not accept any artificial leadership and mandate imposed by force, as witnessed in the recent past. Senior Deputy Convener Syed Mustafa Kamal mentioned that MQM-P has been raising questions about the suspicious role of the Sindh Election Commission for the past year.

He pointed out incidents where dacoits attacked polling stations in Sindh during local elections, disrupting the electoral process, and even taking away ballot boxes.
