IBA launches second social sciences winter school

School seeks to contribute indigenous solutions to combat climate change, particularly in South Asia

KARACHI:

The Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi, in collaboration with the Centre for South Asian and Himalayan Studies in Paris (CESAH, CNRS/EHESS), inaugurated the second edition of the Social Sciences Winter School at the IBA city campus.

Themed "Environmental Change, Societies at Risk, and Social Vulnerabilities in South Asia," the school, running from December 11 to 15, aims to delve into the interconnected issues of environmental change, societal risks, and social vulnerabilities.

The programme encompasses various thematic focuses, scales of interpretation, theoretical inquiries, methodological frameworks, and engages with local and international stakeholders.

IBA Executive Director, Dr. S Akbar Zaidi, opened the session emphasising the significance of collaboration between IBA and CESAH. With 46 participants from diverse locations and disciplines, the school seeks to contribute indigenous solutions to combat climate change, particularly in South Asia, one of the most affected regions.

Research Scholar for CESAH and school organiser, Dr. Remy Delage, highlighted the uniqueness of the training setup, bringing together scholars and participants to address societal challenges through social sciences.
