The magic of on-screen chemistry between two actors is a delight for both fans and showrunners. Even more remarkable is the ability of actors to transcend the script and create a connection so palpable that it blurs the lines between reel and real. The dynamic duo of Ahmed Ali Akbar and Yumna Zaidi is one such case.
Having set screens ablaze with their brilliant performances in dramas such as Ye Raha Dil and Parizaad, Ahmed recalled in a recent interview with host Ayaz Samoo how the television couple sparked fervent whispers of off-screen romance.
“I have received phone calls from people congratulating me on my marriage with Yumna,” the Gunjal actor revealed with a laugh, expressing his amusement over the extent of public imagination. He added, “The first time I kept listening for a couple of minutes before I stopped the person and said ‘You’re watching too much YouTube.’”
Indeed, it is the popular video-sharing platform that Ahmed credits for popularising rumours of his alleged wedding with Yumna. Channels specifically dedicated to dishing insider details about showbiz enjoy popularity among many, with spicier clips taken out of context often going viral.
The 37-year-old furthered on, “YouTubers put together [videos of me] from another wedding, some other drama…” Pointing out the glaring inconsistency in the fake content, Ahmed humorously remarked, “I don’t even look the same across the videos. They pieced them together and shared videos of my wedding events. I even had kids!”
Commenting on the sheer magnitude of accounts solely committed to circulating such misinformation for public entertainment, Ahmed joked about how his false romance with Yumna continued earnings for YouTubers. “A lot of people have been able to keep their kitchens running because of me and Yumna.”
Recently, social media erupted with excitement over a tweet hinting at Ahmed's potential dive into portraying a villain, with many suggesting a potential link to the sequel, Tere Bin 2, starring Yumna and Wahaj Ali. The online buzz left users pondering the intriguing question: In this unfolding scenario, what role awaits Yumna?
The speculation began after an interview with Geo News (Digital) where host Kehkashan Bukhari questioned Ahmed about the possibility of portraying a negative character. The actor’s response added a dash of intrigue as he contemplated the possibility of stepping into the shoes of an antagonist. “Well, I’ll definitely go for that. In fact, I’m in negotiations with the makers. Viewers might see me on screen in a negative role, not too soon, but after some time,” revealed the Laal Kabootar star.
