LAHORE:

An anti-terrorism court judge granted post-arrest bail to PTI worker Sanam Javed on Saturday in a case of assaulting cops, creating law and order problems and possessing petrol bombs during a police operation at Zaman Park.

The court did not consider to the extent of the bail matter the arguments of the prosecution to establish the allegations.

As the proceedings commenced, a law officer told the court that Javed had been nominated in the FIR in the light of a supplementary statement.

He argued that the phone call record of the suspect had established her presence at Zaman Park when the operation was going on.

More than 30 people had been injured and 13 official vehicles set ablaze during the operation, he argued.

The law officer stated that the report of a polygraph test of Javed’s speeches and interviews was awaited.

He contended that three petrol bombs had been seized from the suspect.

No one had been granted bail in a case wherein the accused had been found possessing petrol bombs, he argued.

The petitioner’s counsel implored the court that the allegations levelled against Sanam Javed had nothing to do with reality. He contended that his client had been implicated in a false case.

Replying to a query by the judge, the law officer said the bombs had been seized on November 16 from Zaman Park after digging the land.

The petitioner’s counsel termed it astonishing that the incident had been reported on March 14, while the bombs had been found on November 16.

He said the administration had cleaned up the location and bomb disposal personnel had cleared it.

He alleged that criticism of a PML-N leader on social media was the cause behind the treatment meted out to his client.

The Race Course police had registered the FIR against several people, including Sanam Javed.
