Indian actor Rajshri Deshpande made a heartfelt dedication during the Filmfare OTT Awards ceremony on Monday, November 27, as she received the prestigious Best Actor, Series (Female) award for her outstanding performance in Trial By Fire. In a poignant moment, as reported by The Wire, Deshpande extended her award to honour the innocent lives lost in Gaza owing to increased violence by Israel.

In her touching acceptance speech, Deshpande conveyed her heartfelt sentiments, stating, “To all the Neelam and Shekhar Krishnamoorthy (the lead characters of Trial By Fire) in this world, to all the innocent people, children who lost their lives in the ongoing war which is happening in Gaza and Palestine. To all my villages, to my farmers, who are still waiting for basic necessities in their villages. To all the creators, writers, directors, actors, who are waiting for that one big chance to be seen, heard. I hope we all get empathetic people in the world for us, I hope we get love, kindness and compassion in the world for all of us because that is exactly what we want today and every day.”

Trial By Fire, a Netflix series, draws inspiration from the book Trial by Fire: The Tragic Tale of the Uphaar Fire Tragedy, penned by Neelam and Shekhar Krishnamoorthy. The series dives into the harrowing incident at Uphaar Cinema in Delhi, where 59 individuals were trapped during a fire, leading to tragic fatalities due to asphyxiation. The narrative unfolds the aftermath of the fire, including the stampede that ensued, resulting in additional injuries.

As per news outlet Al Jazeera, "On October 7, Israel launched a massive military campaign in the Gaza Strip following a cross-border attack by Hamas which killed 1,200 people. Israeli attacks have since killed at least 15,000 Palestinians, including 6,150 children and 4,000 women, in Gaza."
