Rs786.12m recovered from power defaulters

As many as 5,182 meters were found manipulated

The Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) has said its teams have recovered Rs786.12 million from 44,687 electricity defaulters and imposed fines worth Rs286.6 million during the ongoing operations.

The company said in a statement that as per the directions of the government, operations against electricity thieves and defaulters are underway in various operation circles of IESCO including Islamabad, Rawalpindi City, Rawalpindi Cantt, Attock, Jhelum and Chakwal.

Power pilferers are facing heavy fines and arrests, the statement read. In the anti-electricity theft campaign that began on September 7, 2023, IESCO detection teams checked 0.3 million meters. Out of which 5,182 meters were found manipulated.

IESCO has imposed fines worth Rs286.6 million by charging 6 million units to consumers for stealing electricity.

By registering 610 FIRs against electricity thieves, police arrested 489 people. On the other hand, IESCO's recovery teams are also recovering dues from defaulters. As a result, Rs404.47 million were recovered from 31,688 running defaulters and Rs381.64 million from 12,999 previous defaulters.

In total, a recovery of Rs786.12 million was ensured from 44,687 consumers who did not pay electricity bills.
