Week-long anti-polio drive starts today

A total of 4,199 teams of Health dept will work in anti-polio campaign

RAWALPINDI/ISLAMABAD:

A week-long anti-polio campaign in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad will begin on Monday [today].

The anti-polio drive in the federal capital will target 421,000 kids below the age of five while over a million children will be administered polio drops in different regions of the Rawalpindi district.

In this regard, the district health authority had completed the planning and preparations for the anti-polio campaign a day ago.

According to the details, a total of 4,199 teams of the Health Department will work in the anti-polio campaign, including 245 UCMs, 866 area in-charges, 3,703 mobile teams, 330 fixed teams, and 166 transit teams, whose training has been completed.

These anti-polio teams will also ensure vaccination of kids at public places, bus stands and other areas. Health authorities have urged parents to give two drops of anti-polio vaccine to every child.

Under the anti-polio campaign, children will be administered drops to protect them from the crippling poliovirus in Gujar Khan, Kahuta, Kallar Syedan, Murree, Rawalpindi Cantt and City and Taxila.

During the anti-polio campaign, the children of the families arriving by road transport at the entrance points of Rawalpindi will be administered the polio vaccine to combat potential transmission.
