Former PTI leader surrenders before ATC

Says he approached court seeking justice

MIANWALI:

Senior leader of Pakistan Tehrek-e-Insaf (PTI) and former Member of the National Assembly Amjad Ali Khan on Monday voluntarily presented himself before an anti-terrorism court to answer allegations of involvement in cases against him.

Khan expressed his commitment to pursue the legal route and confront what he called “baseless accusations” in the court of law.

Speaking on the occasion, Khan emphasised his dedication to justice, stating, “I am a patriotic Pakistani, unrelated to any reprehensible activities, including riots or unrest. The state is like a mother, and I do not wish to brand myself as a terrorist or a criminal. I have approached the court seeking justice.”

Khan continued to distance his family from any links to corruption or terrorism, citing the words of his late father, Dr Sher Afghan Khan, who once declared in the National Assembly, “If even a hint of corruption is proven against us, we should be shot. We have always sustained our family through legitimate means, never resorting to ill-gotten gains.”

The former MNA expressed his unwavering faith in the institutions of Pakistan, saying, “I have always respected every institution of Pakistan and continue to believe in the supremacy of law. I hope for justice and trust in the upper echelons of the legal system to prevail.”

Referring to his political history, Khan asserted, “History stands witness that I have never been involved in destructive activities based on ideology. I have consistently upheld and defended the constitution and the rule of law.”

In a related development, former MPA Malik Ahmad Khan Bachar has been granted bail by the Peshawar High Court.

The Anti-Terrorism Court in Sargodha has directed for the presentation of related cases in the coming seven days.
