Police accused of torture, extortion, and illegal detention

ISLAMABAD:

The anti-corruption circle of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in Islamabad said on Wednesday it had arrested five officials over alleged involvement in a case of kidnapping, illegal detention and extortion after rejection of their bail plea.

Those arrested include Assistant Sub-Inspector Rana Tasneem, Head Constable Muhammad Bilal, and constables Adeel Ahmed, Mubashirur Rehman and Shakeel Ahmed from the court.

The FIA started the inquiry after the Islamabad High Court issued the order to register the case while hearing a complaint filed by one Mairaj Bibi.

In the case, allegations of torture and extortion have been made against police personnel including illegally detaining the petitioner's grandson and others with the connivance of private individuals.

CIA Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Fayaz Ranjha was also named in the case.

Others to be named in the case include Constable Amjad, Constable Shakeel Akhtar, Lady Constable Kausar, Constable Azhar Javed, Constable, Constable Umar Daraz and Asif Ehsan and one Boota have also been named in the case.

The anti-corruption circle said they were investigating the case to determine the role of those nominated as well as others part of any illegal activity.
