Nuking Gaza?

FO concern over remarks of Eliyahu must be read in broader context of peace and security

It seems the Israeli politburo has gone insane. The weird threat from Israel’s Heritage Minister Amihay Eliyahu that his war-mongering country could go to any extent, even use of nukes to obliterate Palestinians has sent shocks across the world. This berserk-ism is nothing new, and the Zionist state has proved beyond doubt that it is barbaric to the core as it bombed the Gazans to death, and pushed the uprooted to go into exile. The far-right coalition government of Benjamin Netanyahu is playing with fire and the comments from his cabinet minister go on to reflect the mood at large, as Israel finds itself in an embarrassing situation after getting battered with a foot-soldier militia, Hamas, and its so-called Iron Dome bite the dust.

Pakistan’s Foreign Office concern over the remarks of Eliyahu must be read in the broader context of peace and security. Israel is not only fanning a world war, but also pushing the entire region in a civil strife as non-state actors are regrouping and hardliner-ism is getting a renewed impetus. Hezbollah, Islami Jihad and the Yemeni, Iraqi and Syrian militias are on the verge of crossing international borders and taking on the Jewish state. Perhaps, this is why the foul-mouth minister has spoken tongue-in-cheek. Israel has elements in its midst that are thinking on the lines of using tactical nuclear weapons on a limited scale merely for the sake of its arrogance. But it has to keep in mind that it won’t be limited warfare, and its consequences will be far-reaching and catastrophic.

Israeli invasion of Gaza is an existential threat as nukes are not too far from the Zions. This drives the world to the conclusion that peace and security is at the crossroads, and it is so because International Law has been thrown to the wind. The fissures in the Middle East have a history of distrust and animosity, and Tel Aviv by refusing to trade land for peace is indulging in genocide. The onus is on the United States to stop Israel from going over the brink.
