331 lives lost in October road crashes

LAHORE:

Punjab witnessed 36,854 Road Traffic Crashes (RTCs) in October, resulting in 331 casualties.

The meeting, chaired by Secretary of the Emergency Services Department Dr Rizwan Naseer discussed the operational performance of all districts. District Emergency Officers (DEOs) shared insights, challenges and initiatives.

Rescue 1122, responding to 163,292 emergencies in October, played a vital role in saving lives across Punjab.

Their interventions included managing 36,854 road traffic accidents, addressing 104,226 medical emergencies, and handling various other incidents.

The majority of traffic accidents occurred in Lahore, with 8,328 incidents and 35 fatalities. Similarly, Faisalabad, Multan, Gujranwala, Sheikhupura and Rawalpindi reported substantial RTAs.

Fire incidents were prominent in major districts like Lahore, Faisalabad, and Rawalpindi.

Tragically, 61 individuals lost their lives in 87 drowning incidents across various locations in Punjab.

Canals, rivers, and other areas accounted for these incidents, emphasising the need for water safety awareness.
