The return of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has sparked conversations between the PML-N and the MQM-P to explore the possibilities of collaboration as political parties jockey for power ahead of the elections.
MQM-P Convener Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui announced on Monday that his party's delegation is scheduled to meet with Nawaz Sharif and PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif in the near future.
The formal contacts between Dr Siddiqui and Shehbaz Sharif recently began following Nawaz Sharif's return to Pakistan. Both parties have discussed the possibility of working together in the future and a high-level delegation from MQM-P is expected to meet the PML-N supremo in the coming days.
Dr Siddiqui revealed that he has already spoken to Shehbaz four times since Nawaz’s arrival to the political scene in an effort to revive his party’s flagging fortunes.
The meeting, expected to take place soon, will address critical matters including seat adjustment in the upcoming elections.
He highlighted the positive working relationship between MQM and PML-N, stating that the latter had been their “last political ally”.
The two parties are keen to explore opportunities for collaboration and are determined to find common ground, he added.
