Talking to a foreign news channel, Military spokesperson Major General Athar Abbas said many innocent people had lost their lives to violence in the city.
He expressed hope that the joint operation by the Rangers and police would restore peace and rid the city of its criminal elements.
Abbas said, intelligence provided by Pakistan's intelligence services was being used to target miscreants in the volatile regions of the city.
Over a question regarding Former Sindh Minister Zulfiqar Mirza's media outburst, he assumed an indifferent stance, saying he was unaware of Mirza's statements.

I think Pakistan Army should come and do an operation against target killers to save precious lives and properties of people of Karachi Pakistan. Every years these target killers kill more than 1000 people in the city which is a state of shock and shows shameful law and order situation in the commercial hub city of Pakistan. Pakistan Army should come in Karachi and give people of Karachi a peaceful living by eliminating target killers forever. Please Army come and save us from target killers. God bless Pakistan.
Yes, it is actually possible he was not aware of Mirza's statements. This is an army person - they don't care about politicians blabbing on televiison. Why is that so hard to believe?
@Mohammad Ali Siddiqui
Totally agree with you. The country was doing so much better when army was in charge. We should stop talking about "democracy" as it hasn't done any good to this country.
As they say: All we need is a good dictator.
ISPR spokesman is right in his stance over Mirza's question, because army is not supposed to answer or take part in any political question or issue.
Pak Army Generals = Angels.
Expression of concern over Karachi killings is not enough to deal with the on going crisis. In fact Zulfiqar Mirza's hard hitting news conference and serious allegations on oath, against MQM and Rehman Malik cannot be ignored particularly when Mirza has claimed that he had provided requisite proof to the Chief of The Army Staff and the DG ISI. The Army must clarify their position on Mirza's claim and if Mirza is telling the truth then what action the Army had taken against the foreign agents holding key positions of authority in our country. In action on the part of Army against such elements or a delayed action can create serious security problems for the country and thus Army may have to share the responsibility for the consequences.
Army wants " bila imtiaz " action in karachi. isnt that what pakistanis want from Army in FATA?
Pakistani generals were not aware of OBL's presence in Abbottabad! Now they are not aware of Z. Mirza's statements either. We should believe it all without questioning the wisdom and expertise of Pakistani army. Being the soldiers of Islam why would they ever lie?
Army should be careful of India trap, they are already causing terror attacks all of pakistan, now they have launched cross border attacks from Afghanistan.
Kayani should resign , and let fresh flood into the Army. Musheraff should be prosecuted.Nawaz sharif should be imprisones no Saudi Lifeline anymore.Zardari should be impeached for carrying out political work and giving USA permission for OBL raid
strong textMIND IT OR NOT BUT KARACHI NEED IT...
I hope that the political animals belonging to various political parties must restore peace in Karachi and stop killing each other.
As a nation, we have a bitter taste of democracy which we have not tasted during the tenure of General (R) Musharraf.
The situation during General (R) Musharraf’s rule was not as bad as it is today.
It is very unfortunate that we have been accusing military dictators for obvious reasons, but after giving serious thought, I am of the opinion that political parties as well as the citizens are not matured enough to move ahead during democratic rule.
If these political animals would not change their attitude, I will be the first person to welcome Pakistan Army to rule the country.
Due to serious law and order situation in Karachi as well as in other parts of Pakistan, I do not see any light at the end of the tunnel and hence made up my mind for the sake of saving the country that Army rule would be much better than present democratic setup.
Good bye democracy and welcome martial, at least for ten years so that instead of going two steps backward, Pakistan must move one step forward.
They are not supposed to talk to foreign news channels without the permission of government.
Over a question regarding Former Sindh Minister Zulfiqar Mirza’s media outburst, he assumed an indifferent stance, saying he was unaware of Mirza’s statements. . Anybody believe that?
instead of voicing concerns its about time army should do something concrete. Like they say, actions speak louder than words.
Hahaha, What type of media personnel he is? Pakistan Army's spokesman says he is unaware of Mirza's statements. Bas Allah hi Allah kiya karo......
