KARACHI:

The Pakistan Auto Show 2023 is set to host more than 150 companies, including Chinese and Iranian automotive parts manufacturers, during its three-day run from October 27 to 29 at the Expo Centre in Karachi. Organised by the Pakistan Association of Automotive Parts & Accessories Manufacturers (PAAPAM), the event will be inaugurated today (Friday) and will welcome the general public from 10:00am to 5:00pm.

This year’s show will feature participation from various associations across the country, including the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) and the Pakistan Automobile Spare Parts Importers & Dealers Association (PASPEDA). Their involvement aims to encourage interaction among different sectors of the economy.

In addition to these local participants, the exhibition will see several Chinese firms and Iranian auto parts manufacturers making their debut. Notable companies, including Honda, SITECH, Crown Group, HACPL, and Ayesha Steel, will showcase their innovations at the event.

The Pakistan Auto Show 2023 has garnered substantial support from numerous governmental and trade entities, such as the Engineering Development Board (EDB), Ministry of Commerce, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA), and PASPIDA.

Zain Shariq, convener of PAAPAM’s exhibition, highlighted the theme of the show, which revolves around creating synergies in Pakistan and shedding light on the country’s hidden assets in terms of value addition and manufacturing. Speaking at a press conference held at the Expo Centre, Karachi, he said, “The aim of the symposium is for academics and intellectuals in the country to share their views on challenges and pathways for the manufacturing talent of the country to better position itself in the local and international markets.”

PAAPAM believes that the automotive vendor sector is the strongest and most globally competitive manufacturing base in Pakistan, encompassing a wide range of technologies and materials. Shariq noted, “Our members are already exporting engineering goods manufactured locally to the tune of $200 million across 57 countries, catering to various segments such as aftermarket auto parts, safety equipment, packaging, medical goods, engineered products, and subcomponents.”

The local auto parts manufacturing industry, which provides direct employment to 500,000 individuals and supports 2.4 million indirect jobs, stands among the top five tax-paying industries in Pakistan. Annually, it contributes Rs16 billion to the national exchequer and adds around $15 million to foreign exchange earnings.
