Autopsy reveals MPhil scholar ‘died of cardiac arrest’

KARACHI:

A young MPhil scholar who was found dead in the washroom of a Karachi University hostel a day earlier died of cardiac arrest, a family member told The Express Tribune.

Mukhtar, 26, had been an MPhil candidate at the HEJ Research Institute of Chemistry, Karachi University, for the past four years.

Rehman Ali, the cousin of the deceased, said that Mukhtar was the eldest of six siblings, two sisters and four brothers, hailing from Tehsil Kabal of Swat district in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. The family had plans for his wedding in February 2024.

“Mukhtar was the only member of his family who had achieved academic success,” Ali said, adding that his deceased cousin’s father passed away last year.

As per details, Mukhtar had entered a washroom of the boys’ hostel at 10am on Monday to take a shower. At 6.30pm, a watchman knocked on the door. With no response, they were compelled to break it open, discovering Mukhtar’s lifeless body inside.

Police stated that the KU administration had promptly informed the police about the incident.
