Health screening in schools planned
The authorities in Punjab are working on initiating health screening in schools.
Addressing the participants of a workshop on early childhood development, Caretaker Punjab Minister Dr Javed Akram said the rate of hereditary diseases in Pakistan was very high.
He also stressed neonatal screening at the University of Child Health Sciences.
At the age of 10 to 12 years, it is too late to diagnose the disease.
He said breastfeeding should increase in the country and mother’s informed about health issues.
The caretaker minister said the government was taking strict action against quacks.
University of Child Health Sciences Vice Chancellor Professor Masood Sadiq said every district should have a children’s hospital.
Failure to treat children is no less than criminal negligence, he added.
