BEIJING:

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan said on Saturday that initiatives like the China-Eurasia Expo would open new corridors of communication and connectivity in the region.

Talking to a TV channel, she said that such initiatives helped promote bilateral trade and open new investment avenues. She said that the presence of President Asif Ali Zardari at the China-Eurasia Expo illustrated the importance that Pakistan attached to economic cooperation with its neighbouring countries. She said that the revival of Silk Route was on the agenda at the China-Eurasia Economic Development and Cooperation Forum. She said that Xinjiang would be the future hub of regional economic activities.

Dr Awan said that the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) and its Chinese counterpart signed an agreement in the presence of President Zardari in Urumqi and termed it another step towards enhanced trade cooperation with China.

She also referred to the statement of China’s Executive Vice Premier Li Keqiang in which he said that the process of opening up inland regions to the world would be quickened.
