The Sindh government’s contemplation of constructing plastic roads signals a paradigm shift in urban development, intertwining innovation with sustainability. The initiative, started by a successful pilot project of recycling lubricant plastic bottles for road construction, embodies a progressive approach to urban and waste management.

Karachi, like many rapidly growing cities, faces a multitude of challenges, from increasing waste accumulation to the demand for sustainable infrastructure. While the plastic roads initiative presents a promising solution to immediate challenges, it is imperative to conduct thorough research on its long-term efficacy. Karachi should take a proactive approach in investigating factors such as durability, environmental impact over time and the feasibility of large-scale implementation.
