Teen injured in cops-robbers crossfire dies in hospital
A 10th grade student, who was injured in crossfire between police and robbers in Lyari, succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
Sixteen-year-old Mohammad Umair had gone to fetch milk when he got caught in the middle of a shootout and got hit by a bullet to the head.
The Eid Gah police had killed three suspects in an encounter in the Ghas Mandi area on Tuesday night, however, two bystanders were also injured. One of the bystander victims was Umair, son of Mohammad Afzal, who died during treatment on Wednesday morning.
The deceased was a resident of the second floor of Dubai Building within the limits of the Kalakot police station and was a student of grade 10.
He was the youngest of two brothers and four sisters. Local residents said that the deceased and his elder brother never used to hangout in the hood. They would go out for studies, prayers at the mosque or groceries for the home.
At the time of the incident, the deceased had gone to buy milk and breakfast in Jinnahabad near his house when Eid Gah police reached there chasing the three robbers.
The accused stopped and opened fire at the police. The police returned the fire. In this crossfire two passers-by Umair and Murtaza sustained bullet injuries. The police killed all the three robbers.
The bodies of the robbers and the injured citizens were shifted to the Civil Hospital.
Umair was shot in the head, while Murtaza was shot in the left leg. Umair died during the treatment. The police handed over the body to the heirs after legal process.
