KARACHI:

The University of Karachi (KU) has increased the fees by 30 per cent for the bachelor's and master's programmes for the new academic year 2024.

KU Academic Council in its meeting held on Tuesday approved the start of new admissions from October 30 and also ended the entrance tests for the third year of the old master's programme.

The meeting chaired by Vice Chancellor Khalid Iraqi approved admissions under the existing undergraduate policy. The new admission policy introduced by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) will not be implemented this year.

According to Dr Iraqi, the relevant committee will submit its report regarding the new HEC undergraduate admission policy at an upcoming meeting of the Academic Council. On the basis of the report, the new policy can be adopted from the 2025 session onwards.

Apart from this, a new BS programme named Sports Business Management was also approved in the academic council meeting. In this programme, admissions to 50 seats for session 2024 will be given on the basis of entrance tests.

Dr Iraqi said this programme is being started under the Department of Public Administration because sports have become an industry worldwide and to run and manage this industry, educated people in the relevant field are now required and a formal curriculum has been developed for it.
