CM Pays surprise visit to Landhi hospital, govt school, Sukhan police station

KARACHI, PAKISTAN:

The Caretaker Chief Minister Justice (Retd) Maqbool Baqar suspended the services of a number of officials including a medical superintendent, a duty officer of a police station, a school headmaster and a veterinarian during a whirlwind visit to the Malir district.

The CM accompanied by caretaker Health Minister Dr Saad Khalid Niaz and Secretary Health Dr Mansor during his visit to 2-A Corridor 50-bed Hospital Landhi observed that its operation theatre was totally non-functional though the operation tables, operation lights, and other OT-related facilities were present.

The hospital had qualified orthopedists, gynaecologists, and chest specialists, but they were referring their patients to other hospitals because they had no facilities for conducting surgeries.

Except for painkillers, the pharmacy was empty of medicines.

There was no ward, and all the beds were rusting due to heavy layers of dust. The hospital had no technicians and paramedical staff even though it had an ambulance, but it had no driver.

Some patients complained to the CM that a local person identified as Hassan Jan had established his sway in the hospital and was harassing the doctors and other staff. The CM directed the SSP to investigate the matter and report him and not allow Hassan Jan to enter the hospital.

The chief minister suspended the services of the MS of the hospital Dr Abdullah Brohi and ordered an inquiry into the hospital matters.

Sukhan Police Station

The interim CM during his surprise visit to the Sukhan Police Station found that out of its three mobiles, besides the wireless system was also out of order.

To a question, the CM was told that the police station has 131 police constables, including three lady constables. When the CM checked the attendance of the policewomen, they were absent for a long time. The CM directed the SSP Malir to take strict action against the lady police constables.

The CM ordered the suspension of the services of SHO Malik Abro and headmuharer of the police station and ordered an inquiry into the overall performance of the police station.

Govt Secondary School

The chief minister visited Govt Boys Secondary School, Bin Qasim. The CM was told that the school has 15 teachers and 180 students, boys and girls, but almost half of the students were absent.
