JI stages sit-in protest outside Governor House

Sirajul Haq says the movement against inflation will continue

KARACHI:

A large number of Jamaat-e-Islami activists and other Karachiites marched to the Sindh Governor House to stage a protest sit-in against inflation, hiked prices of petroleum products, electricity tariff, rigged census and flawed tax regime, here on Sunday.

The march was led by JI Karachi Ameer Engr Hafiz Naeemur Rehman and was taken out from Khizra Masjid near passport office to the governor house.

Leaders of various segments of the society, including traders, minorities and others also participated and addressed the sit-in. Antique Mir, Younous Sohan Advocate and several JI leaders addressed the sit-in. JI Pakistan supremo Sirajul Haq in his presidential address focused on the recent developments in the Middle East and said that Hamas has ruined the Israeli plans in connection with a so-called greater Israel.

The Zionist regime has faced a historical loss in this development, he said and shed light in detail on the Israeli atrocities, highlighting that over 400 Palestinians have been martyred in recent airstrikes. He said that Israel is directly responsible for ethnic cleansing in Palestine.

The JI leader further said that unfortunately the Muslim World is unable to realize and discharge its obligation and even the caretaker prime minister, Kakar, has declared this clash between evil and virtue as a fight between two states. He said that the Muslim block is cutting a sorry figure and showing cowardice despite the fact that it is consisted of 58 states with over 7.5 million strong forces.

He said that the JI has decided to observe the next seven days as the week of Palestine. At the same time, the campaign against inflation will continue, he said.

Marches will be taken out on next Sunday as an expression of solidarity with our Palestinian brothers and sisters, whereas funds will also be raised for the victims, he said.

Talking about the electricity sector, he strongly lambasted the government's leniency towards the issue of Independent Power Producers and quoted experts at a national conference as saying that electricity can be made available as low as Rs5 per unit.
