Bollywood veteran Sanjay Dutt, who is gearing up for his upcoming Tamil film Leo, recently opened up about his experiences during his time in Pune's Yerwada Jail. The actor, who was arrested for possession of arms linked to the 1993 Mumbai bombings, was sentenced to five years in prison, according to Indian Express. Speaking on the show Star vs Food Survival, hosted by chef Ranveer Brar, Sanjay candidly discussed how he made the most of his jail time.
During his time in prison, Sanjay seemed to have focused on personal growth, utilising the opportunity to expand his knowledge and skills. He delved into cooking, deepened his understanding of scriptures, and devoted himself to physical fitness, emerging with a stronger and more resilient persona.
The star recalled, "The first time I went to jail, if you see the photographs outside Thane jail – Anna, Akshay, Ajay, Shah Rukh, everybody came and wished me well. I had no respite from serving jail time, so why overthink it?" He continued to state, "I had to make up my mind that yes, I had to go. I have to face it. In six years, I faced it, managed it, made the most out of it, and learned from it. I used that time to learn cooking, scriptures, and working out. I came out with a better physique."
The actor's appearance on the show was made even more special with the presence of his close friend and fellow actor Suniel Shetty. Reflecting on the camaraderie in Bollywood during the 80s compared to the present day, Sanjay shared, "There was so much bonding amongst all of us. We were so together. We worked in so many movies together."
In a unique twist, the television show saw Sanjay and Suniel, along with Chef Ranveer, venture into the pristine and untouched terrains of rural Coorg. Over a challenging 15-kilometer stretch, they were tasked with preparing two complete meals while facing various obstacles.
Speaking about his experience on the show, Sanjay expressed, "After my delightful journey on Star vs Food Survival, I’ve uncovered a fresh recipe for life—one that revolves around relishing each moment with loved ones and savouring the bonds we share. Collaborating with my dear friend Suniel Shetty has infused this experience with a special essence, rekindling precious memories that I’ll cherish for a lifetime. Food, friendship, and laughter—truly the perfect ingredients for a beautiful life."
Sanjay's journey, both within and outside the confines of a jail cell, reflects his resilience and determination to make the most of every moment, demonstrating that personal growth and transformation can occur in the most unexpected places. His story continues to inspire fans and fellow Bollywood enthusiasts as he embarks on new adventures in the entertainment world.
