LAHORE:

Citizens attacked the vehicle of former premier Shehbaz Sharif, breaking the windshield and hurling abuses at the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) stalwart in Lahore late on Wednesday night.

According to Express News, Shehbaz was touring the city in connection with the upcoming elections with the aim of connecting with the people of his constituency.

However, a mob intercepted his vehicle and lashed out at the premier. Videos of the incident went viral on social media.

The people who thronged the former premier's vehicle reportedly lambasted him for a deteriorating drainage structure in Lahore's Kahna area.

The next day (Thursday), the former premier took to X, formerly Twitter, to acknowledge the incident.

He stated that he met with representatives of the mob that intercepted his vehicle and heard their concerns.

Claiming that he remains committed to resolving the grievances of his vote bank, he said that he assured the representatives of addressing their problems. "Politics is a form of worship in my view," he wrote.

The Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government led by Shehbaz, which vacated office on August 9, 2023, has been heavily criticized for skyrocketing inflation and political turmoil.
