Building Bridges: Work to start on Benazir Bridge

KHANPUR: Federal Minister for Textile Industry Makhdoom Shahabuddin announced on Friday that the construction of the Benazir Shaheed Bridge on the Indus River would commence this year.  Addressing party workers, he said that Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani had announced that construction of the Benazir Shaheed Bridge near Chachran Sharif at Nishtar Ghaat on the River Indus one and half years ago. The federal minister said that last year’s floods had devastated the country’s economy and had delayed the project. He said that planning on the bridge had been completed and construction would begin as soon as possible.
