The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) is urging authorities to launch a comprehensive and transparent investigation into the adverse reactions reported among conjunctivitis patients who received Avastin injections.
In response to cases of infections, some leading to vision loss, the PMA, representing medical practitioners, stresses the urgency of determining the underlying causes to prevent similar incidents in the future.
A hybrid meeting of the office bearers of the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA), presided by PMA President Dr Hameedullah Kakkar, was held on Monday at PMA House Karachi.
During this meeting, PMA leadership expressed profound concern over recent issues surrounding the use of Avastin injections in the country. Reports indicate infections and adverse reactions in patients who received the injections that were not properly sterilised or dispensed. Given the gravity of the situation, PMA calls on authorities to launch a transparent and comprehensive inquiry to uncover the root causes of these problems, with the aim of preventing future incidents.
