ISLAMABAD:

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has slammed the caretaker government’s recent reduction in the petroleum products prices as “a drop in the ocean” amid the skyrocketing inflation.

A PTI spokesperson lambasted the government for “anti-poor policies” in a press release issued on Sunday.
Taking a jibe at the caretaker government’s recent lower-than-expected reduction after massive hike, he termed the price cut “as symbolic, inadequate and cumin seed in the mouth of a camel.”

Comparing the prices since his party was ousted through a vote of no confidence, he said petrol was available at Rs149 per litre when PTI’s “well-performing” government was ousted “through a conspiracy,” adding that the rates of petrol and diesel witnessed over “two-fold increase” during the last 17 months.

The PTI spokesperson stated that the caretaker government kept the tradition of massive increases in the POL prices like the PDM.

He went on to say that the country was in the grip of worst inflation due to the “unbearable” surge in the prices as it was becoming impossible for the people to make ends meet.

The spokesperson said: “On one hand, businesses and sources of income are shrinking very fast due to the ruined economy, while on the other hand, terrorism is resurfacing as a national problem once again, making innocent citizens insecure and terrified.”

"Unfortunately, the caretaker government and the state officials are busy in unleashing a reign of terror and state operation against PTI and its supporters," he added.

The spokesperson called on the caretaker government to realise the sensitivity of the situation and ensure the conduct of free, fair and transparent elections within the constitutionally defined time limit of 90 days.
