JARANWALA:

A man was arrested on Saturday for allegedly impersonating a police officer and extorting at least Rs100,000 from a citizen.

Atiqur Rehman, a resident of 414/GB, reported to police that his nephew, Ajaz alias Baga, has a robbery charge against him with Sadar Sari police station. The accused Allah Ditta, a resident of 229/GB Jaswana, came to Rehman’s residence clad in a police uniform and threatened him, saying "I will kill you and your nephew in the police encounter."

The accused demanded Rs200,000 from Rehman, who paid Rs10,000 on the spot. Two days later, the accused returned and immediately demanded money.

Rehman gave him Rs100,000 and asked for more time to pay the remaining amount.

Atiqur Rehman asked around about the accused and learned that he was neither a police officer nor employee, but rather a volunteer.

‘While posing as a police officer, he stole Rs100,000 from me at gunpoint,’ Rehman lamented.

The SP Saddar arrested the accused on the spot and registered a case under Section 384-506B-170 PPC with Saddar Tandlianwala after the allegations were proven in the inquiry.
