A family feud escalated into a triple murder on Thursday in Suianwala Khoh, within the jurisdiction of Dhale Police Station
The victims have been identified as Laiba, her husband Zaigham Abbas and her mother-in-law Naseem Bibi.
The incident unfolded just 20 days after Laiba and Zaigham Abbas got married against initial family objections. Both hailing from the same neighbourhood, their families had ultimately consented to the union, and plans for reconciliation between the two sides were underway.
Tragedy struck when the newlywed couple, along with mother-in-law Naseem Bibi and other relatives, visited Laiba's parents' house to resolve lingering issues amicably.
However, tensions flared when Laiba's cousin, Usman, began speaking bitterly. The situation escalated, leading the family to escort Usman out of the house. Later, Usman returned armed and opened fire, fatally shooting Laiba, Zaigham Abbas and Naseem Bibi.
Upon receiving reports of the incident, a a police contingent arrived at the scene and transported the victims' bodies to the hospital for post-mortem examinations. An investigation into the tragedy has been initiated.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Arif Khan said the accused, Usman, was promptly apprehended. Usman had been previously engaged to Laiba but was left heartbroken when she chose to marry Zaigham Abbas without family consent.
The situation seemed to be resolving when both families were willing to accept Laiba's marriage, but Usman's overwhelming grief drove him to commit this heinous act. However, as the case involves triple murder and plaintiffs from both sides, formal charges have yet to be filed, pending a decision on who will take up the case.
