Dengue awareness drive falters

Approximately four dozen new dengue cases surface in Rawalpindi

The District Health Authority’s (DHA) campaign against dengue has encountered setbacks after the continuous recovery of dengue larvae from various premises.

According to sources, dengue larvae were detected in 578 households and 73 outdoor locations in a single day during a survey.

In response to repeated discoveries of dengue larvae in the same areas, authorities levied fines amounting to Rs36,000 within a single day.

The District Health Authority's drive has been criticised as mere symbolism by other organisations involved in the anti-dengue campaign.

Sources further said the total number of confirmed dengue cases this season has now reached 948.

Over the past 24 hours, 45 new confirmed dengue cases were reported, bringing the tally of patients receiving treatment in hospitals to 89, with nine individuals in critical condition. A total of 859 patients have successfully recovered and been discharged from medical facilities.

So far, 48 First Information Reports (FIRs) have been registered due to repeated discoveries of dengue larvae despite prior warnings. A building was sealed off.

Out of the 10,290 identified hotspots designated as potential breeding grounds for dengue larvae, 1,008 hotspots were visited and cleared, while 282 remained unvisited. Commenting on negligence, DHA CEO emphasised that clear directives have been issued by the commissioner for the campaign's execution.
