Minister urges swift progress on CPEC

Says working groups on infrastructure to meet soon

Caretaker Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Muhammad Sami Saeed, on Friday, has called upon all ministries and divisions to accelerate their efforts in advancing the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects. Chairing a meeting to assess the status of CPEC projects, the minister emphasised the need for expeditious progress, according to a press release.

The meeting, attended by the chief economist of Pakistan and representatives from various ministries and divisions, provided an overview of the developments in CPEC projects, particularly following the 12th Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) meeting held in July 2023.

During the meeting, detailed updates were presented on the implementation status of projects spanning various sectors such as energy, infrastructure, information technology, Gwadar International Airport, SEZs, and other key areas. Notably, several early harvest projects, including major infrastructure initiatives, have already been completed.

The meeting also revealed plans for Joint Working Groups (JWGs) on infrastructure to meet in the coming week. APP
