ICC World Cup anthem: 'Dil Jashn Bole' follows a very Pakistani cricket anthem formula

Don't get us wrong, the 3-minute song offers rhythm, energy and a show for all Ranveer, Pritam and cricket fans

The official anthem for the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup 2023 is finally out and it stars Bollywood heartthrob Ranveer Singh shaking a leg with Pritam Chakraborty, the renowned Indian composer who has created the track.

Titled Dil Jashn Bole, the 3-minute banger offers rhythm, energy and a show for all Ranveer, Pritam and cricket fans. The music video takes off with Ranveer questioning a child whether he is a “fan” or not. In response, the kid asks, “What does it take to be a fan?” setting the tone for the track, which proves it takes only “one day”.

The song follows a very Pakistani cricket anthem formula, with its hook featuring a baja-like clink – something songs like Ali Zafar’s Khel Jamay Ga and Abdullah Siddiqui and Meesha Shafi’s Khel Dil Mein Hai have previously utilized. It also offers a loud, danceable beat and a rap part, capable of lifting anyone’s spirit.

The lyrics by Shloke Lal and Saaveri Verma work well to emulate the emotions attached with the game. The pronounced instrumentation makes the sound big enough to fill a cricket stadium – just what is needed during a heated-up match.

And while it may seem cluttered to some, with so much happening in such little time, Dil Jashn Bole pushes the envelope in terms of energy and peppiness when compared to previous world cup anthems. And Ranveer is the perfect guy to recreate that energy onscreen.
