Interim minister says new appointees to pursue a degree programme in education to earn a professional licence

Interim Minister for Education and Literacy Rana Hussain has said the newly appointed teachers will have to pursue a degree programme in education to earn a professional licence for teaching.

She was addressing an award distribution ceremony for high achieving teachers in the Initial Professional Development Programme (IPDP). The event was organized by Sindh Teachers Education Development Authority (STEDA) at Mumtaz Mirza Auditorium Hall, Hyderabad, on Monday.

The Chief Curriculum Adviser Dr Fozia Khan said the teachers ought to be committed to their profession. She added that, "we need to create the best teachers in our education system for the better future of our children."

Hussain later distributed certificates among the high achieving teachers from different districts of Sindh. The minister later visited Darul Aman in Hyderabad where the facility's in charge Khalida Soomro informed her that 13 inmates were getting technical and vocational training. The minister also interacted with the women and asked about the facilities being provided to them.

The minister also visited the Sindh Text Book Board, Jamshoro, to take stock of the situation concerning the shortage of curriculum books in the government schools. "I have a serious stance over the shortage of curriculum books."
