The 2023 Asia Cup had cricket enthusiasts buzzing with anticipation, especially for the much-anticipated clash of the titans. However, despite the excitement, this edition of the tournament will be remembered for missed opportunities, questionable decisions and the ever-unpredictable weather.

In the end, India came out as victors after Sri Lanka crumbled against Siraj’s brilliant bowling in just 50 runs. Sri Lankan innings featured five ducks, showcasing India’s bowling prowess as their pacers managed to swing the ball both ways. However, the highlight of any Asia Cup has always been the contest between arch-rivals Pakistan and India. Fans on both sides of the divide had been eagerly awaiting this showdown. But the marquee event was marred by unpredictable weather, and constant rain interruptions cast a shadow of despondency over not just the match but the entire Asia Cup, which impacted the quality of play and overall tournament experience. This should serve as a reminder for those at the helm that in the world of sports, meticulous planning and foresight are crucial.

For Team Pakistan, the tournament proved a challenging journey and their performance left much to be desired. The litmus test before the upcoming World Cup did not give the desired results and may have even dampened their high spirits. It is time for Babar and Co to head back to the drawing board and conduct a thorough analysis of their shortcomings, especially in light of the challenges faced by their core bowlers. These bowlers have been the backbone of the team for some time, but in the Asia Cup, they seemed battered and strained. Bowling spells that were once feared by opponents now appeared vulnerable. It is crucial for the team management to assess the workload and fitness of these key players.
