Dr Khalid Hafeez, the Vice Chancellor of Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITEMS), has announced a major initiative that is poised to revolutionize education in the region: the establishment of the first-ever Artificial Intelligence (AI) Academy.
The move aims to empower the students of Balochistan with cutting-edge knowledge and skills, enabling them to compete on the global stage.
In an exclusive interview with The Express Tribune, Dr. Khalid Hafeez articulated his commitment to bringing about transformative reforms and elevating the educational standards at BUITEMS.
This announcement comes at a critical juncture for the university, which has been grappling with a severe financial crisis in recent years, seemingly overlooked by the government.
Dr Hafeez emphasized the importance of preparing students to become global citizens, equipped with the latest skills and knowledge needed for international competitiveness.
He underscored that the dedicated faculty and staff share his vision and are wholeheartedly committed to its realization. Although BUITEMS is already recognized as one of the nation’s top educational institutions, the pressing financial challenges have underscored the need for innovation and change.
The VC stressed that AI represents the future of education. His dream is to provide high-quality education to the students of Balochistan, ensuring that they are not only well-prepared for national opportunities but also equipped to secure quality jobs on the international stage.
Under the leadership of Chancellor and Governor of Balochistan, Malik Abdul Wali Kakar, BUITEMS has crafted an ambitious plan to impart information technology training skills to a staggering 10,000 students from the province.
Dr Hafeez envisions this initiative as a catalyst for profound transformation in Balochistan, promising a brighter future for its youth.
He brings a wealth of experience from his 37-year tenure in London, where he taught at renowned universities. His selection as the VC BUITEMS, following rigorous interviews and a careful screening process conducted by a search committee, underscores his qualifications and commitment to the institution.
