'Mein Kahani Hoon' aims to put a new spin on storytelling
In a new-found attempt at telling stories, Express Entertainment’s newly released serial Mein Kahani Hoon attempts to develop the art of creative storytelling.
Released on September 4, the serial houses multiple episodes with multiple different storylines in each. Written and directed by popular names in the industry, the drama serial is produced by Babar Javed’s BJ productions and is said to display many familiar faces in its storytelling venture, with actors Faysal Quraishi, Beenish Chohan, Shamim Hilaly, Syed Mohammad Ahmed, Aijaz Aslam, Sunita Marshall, Javed Shaikh, Hina Dilpazeer, Kaiser Khan Nizamani, Omer Shahzad, and Arez Ahmed, among others.
Recently, Arez Ahmed was caught in the spotlight for portraying a role completely different to what he is previously known to have essayed. Sharing a close up look for his role as someone from the Khwajasira community to his Instagram, followed by a trailer, Ahmed revealed that his new project, Mein Kahani Hoon, will be a departure from his traditional roles.
Ahmed’s episode seems to delve into the realities of belonging to the Khwajasira community in current day Pakistan and the trails of living in an unaccepting society. While sharing the trailer to his social media, Ahmed wrote, “Acting awakens a certain sense of empathy inside of you. It is a celebration of a thousand possibilities.”
Sharing another anecdote from shooting the narrative, the Uraan actor also shared the official poster for the episode with a caption that stated: “Saw people getting uncomfortable around us before they realised we are on a shoot and merely actors playing hermaphrodite (hijras). Two days of shoot made me realise what agony they go through all their lives. All these newly coined terms have made us forget about these people and their rights…Hijras are not transgender, they don’t have a choice.”
