Imran Riaz’s matter headed in ‘good direction’

IGP apprises LHC he met with missing journalist’s father, updated him about developments in case

LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday adjourned the proceedings of a petition for the recovery of journalist Imran Riaz Khan until Sept 20, after the court was apprised by the police that the investigation was headed in a “good direction”.

LHC Chief Justice Muhammad Ameer Bhatti took up the petition filed by Imran’s father seeking his recovery. At the outset of the hearing, the chief justice asked Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Usman Anwar about the progress in the case.

IG Anwar replied that on the court’s direction, he met with the petitioner and updated him and his counsel about the developments in this case.

He added that the matter of journalist Imran Riaz Khan was going in a good direction.

However, petitioner’s counsel Ali Mian Ashfaq apprised the court that development might take place any time in this case.

Later, Chief Justice Bhatti adjourned the proceedings until Sept 20.

The whereabouts of anchorperson Imran remained unknown since his arrest on May 11 from the Sialkot Airport. In the last hearing of the petition, Chief Justice Bhatti had given the Punjab IG until Sept 13 to recover Imran.
