Commits to collaborating with World Bank to uplift marginalised regions

ISLAMABAD:

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar on Monday said that the government was prioritising uplifting backward areas around the country to the same level as developed regions. In a meeting with Country Director of the World Bank Najy Benhassaine, the prime minister commended the World Bank’s role in developing underprivileged areas, particularly in remote parts of Balochistan.

He noted the World Bank’s significant contribution to relief and rehabilitation efforts in areas affected by unprecedented floods in 2022 and pledged full administrative support for the swift completion of rehabilitation projects in flood-affected regions.

The World Bank’s country director briefed the prime minister on ongoing development initiatives aimed at uplifting backward areas in Balochistan, flood rehabilitation work in Sindh, and the allocation of funds committed by the World Bank in Geneva.

Interim Finance Minister Shamshad Akhtar also participated in the meeting, emphasising the government’s dedication to sustainable development and regional progress.
