Juvenile prison converted into ‘boarding house’

Inmates will be provided educational facilities in incarceration

BAHAWALPUR:

In order to provide education to juvenile prisoners, Borstal Prison in Bahawalpur has been converted into a 'boarding house' under the knowledge-friendly initiative of the South Punjab School Education Department. A library has also been established, along with the construction of classrooms in the jail.

Secretary School Education South Punjab Rana Saleem Ahmed Khan visited the Borstal Institute and Juvenile Prison on Friday and reviewed the school and library plans for children's education and training. Deputy Secretary Khawaja Mazharul Haq, CEO Education Bahawalpur Chaudhry Muhammad Akram and officers of the Education Department were also present during the visit.

The Secretary reviewed the facilities provided to children in the Borstal cell, while Superintendent Borstal Jail and CEO Education Bahawalpur delivered a briefing to the Secretary regarding educational facilities provided to children.

Secretary Khan added that the Department of School Education South Punjab has arranged for a classroom, a library and a teacher for the education of juvenile inmates, while the energies of the children will be spent engaged in positive activities.
