All public and private educational institutions including universities, colleges and schools located in the municipal limits of Rawalpindi tehsil will remain closed on Thursday (today) as part of Chehlum security measures.

Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner Hassan Waqar Cheema issued a notification in this regard, with the decree not applicable on educational institutions located within the boundaries of the cantonment.

Cell phone services would be suspended in areas within 1,000 metres of the Chehlum procession, with the main procession in Rawalpindi to start at the Teeli Mohallah Imambargah at 11am. The procession would end at the old Imambargah in the evening.

Over 4,000 police personnel, along with 250 traffic wardens, will be deployed for security during the Chehlum procession), the Rawalpindi police said. A control room had also been established to oversee the security plan, they added.
