Ex-MNA produced before ATC duty judge over financial support to terrorists

ISLAMABAD:

Duty judge at the Anti-Terrorism Court, Raja Jawad Abbas Hasan, remanded former National Assembly member Ali Wazir on Monday into police custody for three days in a case of alleged financial support to terrorists, registered at the Bhara Kahu police station.

For the remand hearing, Wazir was present before judge Hasan. The police said that it was the first remand in the case, and they wanted to investigate the accused over financial support to terrorists. The text of the first information report was also read out in the court.

During the hearing, the judge inquired that what was the anti-state narrative and who was accused Muhammad Ali mentioned in the FIR. The judge was informed that Ali Wazir’s real name was Muhammad Ali.

Speaking in the court Wazir said that he had informed the interior minister about holding a rally in front of the Supreme Court but the minister opposed the venue. He added that they agreed to hold the rally in Tarnol. The court inquired, which red line he crossed? Wazir replied that he didn’t know.

Addressing that court, Wazir further said that everyone knew the situation in his native area. “My area is more backward than Afghanistan. Target killings and bomb explosions are daily happening. I am 47 years old and we are still suffering.

The court asked Wazir whether he ever had pointed his weapon at someone, Wazir replied that many of his family members had been killed in target killing but he would say on oath that till date “I have not fired” any weapon.

During the hearing, Wazir’s lawyer Attaullah Kundi opposed the remand, saying that in the same case Iman Mazari had got the bail. Kundi also referred to various judgments of the Supreme Court. To a court query, Kundi said that there was no ban on Wazir’s party, the PTM.

Judge Hasan said that the case actually belonged to the anti-terrorism court, but the judge was on leave. He added that if there was a drugs case, he would hear. He added that Wazir could face a drugs case at any time.

The investigating officer (IO) told the court that that police wanted to find out more about the funding, therefore, they were seeking remand. Later, the judge approved a three-day physical remand of Wazir and directed for his medical examination.
