President Dr Arif Alvi on Friday granted approval for the reconstitution of the National Economic Council (NEC), a constitutional entity responsible for assessing the country's economic status and formulating strategies to foster equitable development and regional balance.
The president invoked Article 156 of the Constitution to effect the reconstitution of this 13-member council.
The NEC will be chaired by the prime minister, and its membership will include the chief ministers of all the four provinces, along with representatives from the caretaker federal and provincial governments.
According to a statement from the President House press wing, Punjab's representative in the council will be caretaker Provincial Power Minister SM Tanvir, while caretaker Sindh Finance Minister Muhammad Yunus Dhagha will represent the province.
Additionally, caretaker Finance Minister Ahmed Rasool Bangash from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Amjad Rasheed, his counterpart from Balochistan, will serve as members of the council.
Federal ministers for planning, communication, railway, maritime affairs, power, and petroleum will also hold positions within the NEC.
