Pakistan as a developing country is currently facing many challenges including poverty, gender disparity, diseases, and lack of equal opportunities for people to access education for which every person must strive according to his capacity.
This was said by Rawalpindi Commissioner Liaqat Ali Chatha during the session of the United Nations Global Dialogue on Sustainable Development at the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce on Thursday.
Chatha emphasised the need for collective efforts to achieve the 2030 goals for a more sustainable, equitable, and prosperous world.
He praised the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce’s active role in supporting sustainable development through policy-making, capacity-building, and networking.
The event, held at the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce, was attended by notable figures including chamber President Saqib Rafiq, Senior Vice President Hamza Saroosh, Vice President Faisal Shahzad, former President Zahid Latif Khan, and members from the chamber, and civil society.
Saqib Rafiq affirmed that the country’s development stands as a primary concern for everyone. He stressed the significant role women play in national development and the chamber’s commitment to enhancing opportunities for women in the workforce.
He also noted the chamber’s stringent stance against harassment of women, particularly in workplaces, and their dedication to providing a safe environment for women.
United Nations Coordinator in Pakistan, Julien Harneis, spoke about the 17 SDGs for 2030 during the occasion. These goals aim to promote global peace and prosperity, enhance health and education, reduce inequality, and foster economic growth, he said.
