Twenty-six new cases of dengue were reported in Lahore, while the anti-dengue squad destroyed larvae at 968 locations during ongoing surveillance.
Punjab Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department sources told the media that 26 new cases of dengue were reported in Lahore on Sunday, including eight cases from Aziz Bhati Town, six from Allama Iqbal Town, two each from Shalimar, Wahga, Ravi, Data Ganj Bakhs Towns and four from other areas of the city.
Separately, Health Department sources stated that dengue larvae were found in 968 locations across Punjab during the past 24 hours, with many patients under treatment in different hospitals of the city. Various squads conducted surveillance at indoor and outdoor locations to detect dengue larvae.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Lahore Rafia Haider is continuously paying surprise visits to monitor the dengue teams after a predicted rise in dengue cases after the rains. She reviewed the performance of dengue teams working in various areas and ordered strict action against ghost workers. The inspection of over 5,000 locations will be ensured on a daily basis, she ordered.
In a statement, she announced that dengue surveillance would be increased, keeping in mind rain forecasts from the meteorological department. She warned all town officers to meet targets on a daily basis.
